We are delighted to be able to announce that as of Monday 1st March 2021 all calls to our Adviceline will be completely free of charge to anyone living, working or studying in the London Borough of Haringey.
Currently, calls to Adviceline cost the same as calling a national number and whilst the call is likely to be free of charge if the client has a phone deal that includes free calls to landlines, we know that this isn't the case for many people trying to reach us across Haringey.
Making Adviceline completely free has always been an ambition for us as your local Citizens Advice bureau and also of Citizens Advice nationally, and this change represents a long-term significant investment. This year Citizens Advice (nationally) received funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to deal with the increased demand for advice as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. This funding has enabled the plans to make Adviceline free move forward at pace.
Here in Haringey the coronavirus pandemic forced us to close our office doors and cease delivering our services from our outreach points across the borough, transferring our entire operation onto Adviceline. Whilst we have still been able to support a high number of local residents we have been continuously conscious of the difficulties this decision would have caused for those in difficult financial situations. It is our hope that the move to a free phone number will now enable everyone in Haringey to access our support when needed, regardless of their financial circumstances.
'Making it free of charge to ring the Adviceline will make a huge difference to the people we support. Many people who rely on us often find themselves in desperate situations including not having any credit on their phones. To be able to let people know that you can contact us for advice, support and guidance free of charge is a major step forward in supporting people in the community.' - Daniel Blake, CEO
Until 1st March, Haringey residents will still be able to contact us on 0300 330 1187 (Mon-Fri, 10-4)
From 1st March, our Adviceline operations will switch to our new FREEPHONE number 08082787966 (Mon-Fri, 10-4)
