Citizens Advice Haringey Service Update March 2022

With the increase in the cost of living beginning to have an impact on Haringey residents the demand on our services is understandably growing. With this in mind we are planning to increase the services that we offer to people living, working or studying in the borough, ensuring that as many people as possible feel supported by us regardless of the complexity of their issue. Below is an overview of the various services we currently provide, the issues they support and the way in which you can access them. It is our hope that by focusing each service on specific issues local residents that need our support will be able to turn to the relevant service quicker. Our AdviceLine continues to provide a point of access to our fully trained advisers for those local residents who require extensive intervention into an issue they are facing. These issues can include debt, benefits, housing, employment and consumer complaints. AdviceLine can be reached for free on 0808 278 7966 (Mon-Fri, 10-4)

We have recently launched a service dedicated to providing advice to people living in privately rented properties across Haringey which can be accessed via email. This service can provide advice on any issue related to, be that disrepairs, problems with neighbours or any issue related to the tenancy itself. Request support from our Private Rented Sector (PRS) service via privaterenting@citizensadviceharingey.org.uk and a member of our team will contact you within 3-5 working days. On Tuesday 15th March we will be launching another service, designed to help Haringey to help itself with issues of a less complex nature our innovative Virtual Signposting Hub (part of our Community Navigation Service) will provide guidance on self help resources, alternative support methods and access to local referral pathways. Whilst this service will be unable to provide advice it will be able to empower those accessing it to take the next steps towards resolving their issue. We hope to be able to provide publicly accessible workshops on specific issues via this same service. The VSH will be hosted on a platform called Gather. For more information on Gather click here The VSH will be accessible every Tuesday (10-12pm) via the Crisis Support section of our website www.haringeycabx.org.uk (You must use a laptop or desktop computer to access this service) We understand that covering the cost of basic necessities such as food can often be difficult for many people living in Haringey and with the number of people requiring support from a food bank at an all time high we continue to offer access to the vast number of food provisions the borough has to offer via our Food Support Whatsapp service. Send a Whatsapp message containing your name, postcode and summary of the reason you need food support to 07845 013956 and one of our team will respond within a maximum of 2 working days. We are delighted to be a part of Connected Communities, a programme delivered by Haringey Council, designed to improve access to council and voluntary support in Haringey. We want to help and encourage residents to live their version of a good life.

We continue to provide support for L&Q tenants via the Pound Advice project. Pound Advice is a free money support programme for L&Q residents. We realise that money problems can cause real worry and anxiety and if you’ve got debts it can be hard to know where to turn.Pound Advice is funded by L&Q and managed for them by We Are Digital. If you are an L&Q tenant you can request support from Pound Advice by calling 0203 475 2221 or by texting POUND to 60777.
